Niqui Carter is a Brooklyn-based portrait, travel & lifestyle photographer, born and raised in Minnesota. Originally trained as a painter, Niqui creates photographic images that can also live on a canvas. She combines digital processing with a documentary approach to abstract the urban landscape. This practice gives her the freedom to explore the way light touches an object and the ambiguity that exists in the shape of a line, or the curve of a shadow, and opens up a world that is hidden in plain sight. Merida, Mexico, with its “hot, bright sunlight” was a perfect playground for Carter.
Niqui Carter has shown her work in Brooklyn, Minneapolis, and Paris. The artist received a B.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota and studied Photography at Parsons, Paris. Her work has also been published in the New Yorker, Artistic Journals, Fashionista, and more.
